In Search of Lost Time was much more engaging in the original French. Sadly I’ve lost most of my knowledge over the years, but it was one the best original language reads I’ve ever had.

Wholesome and raunchy can exist simultaneously in a sitcom. Night Court had some raunchy jokes but it was ultimately about everyone being a family and justice being fair and about people which is incredibly wholesome.

It has the same wholesome goofy vibe as the original and it’s a real easy sitcom procedural. I get why it’s popular.

Yeah, I think the second the term “inherent good” comes up the actual understanding of the situation becomes muddled. It moves from understanding the relationship and benefits and detriments of a systems and policies. Inherent values are arbitrary, cultural, and subjective; they obscure the subject you are attempting to understand, especially empirically.

Everything is always a mean to some end. And in turn those ends are usually means for something else. Democracy can be conceptualized as a value when framed as a form of structuring political authority or simply a tool for enacting a form of popular political authority. Distinguishing between means and ends conflates issues that are far more complex and dynamic.

I don’t think 99.9 percent of people criticizing it have watched a single episode. So I don’t think anyone has any idea if it’s a good change or not. Just change.

I have plenty of art in my life. You sound like you need some empathy, but it’s the internet so I won’t judge. Let’s just go on about our respective lives.

It’s not. Art can shape a mind. And if the artists shaping that mind is toxic it matters. Science is attenuated from cultural and individual biases; art isn’t.

I am talking about the article because art and science are different. I don’t need to separate art from the artists because as amazing as art can be it doesn’t save lives or change society. Separating science from the scientist is far more palatable and easier since science is built by a tremendous number of people all improving upon or developing that person’s work. Separating art from the artist is not analogous to pretty much any other type of development.

Yes, that is obvious, but that doesn’t just mitigate the problematic author. Basically all this says is you gan separate the art from the artist as long as your separate the art from the artist. It’s neither novel nor particularly philosophically compelling.

That doesn’t seem terribly helpful. I mean just hating the artist whatever, but why would I want philosophy to help people avoid the consequences of their actions and statements.
