Oh definitely, I'm the same way. Hearing it actually in use with the real play podcasts helped me though. Even if you don't follow the rules, they're still fun to listen to. The Adventures Zone tends to play a bit of Calvinball with the rules anyway.

I learned by listening to podcasts and watching a few YouTube channels.
Check out Tabletop Champions or The Adventures Zone as a starting place for podcasts. Critical Role is the gold standard, but can set unrealistic expectations for those new to the hobby because everyone there is a trained voice actor.
For YouTube channels, check out The Dungeon Dudes, Taking 20, Zee Bashew's Animated Spellbook series, or XP to Level 3.

Serial also wasn't the huge phenomenon it became back when it was being recorded. To Adnan, Sarah was just any other reporter looking for a story.

Oh, does that connect them? It wasn't even mentioned on the maps I looked at.

I had that same thought, then I looked it up and realized the DC metro is wholely seperate from the Baltimore metro. It would be great if I could just hop on a train in Baltimore and ride down to the capital but the closest station to DC is probably Greenmount.

I started typing up a comment about how I only ever used it to ride down to the National Mall in DC from Silver Spring, but then realized the DC metro and Baltimore metro aren't linked. I've ridden the Baltimore metro once or twice when I was a kid going downtown to see an O's game, but I don't even do that anymore. They've somehow managed to make parking in the city less of a hassle than taking the metro and that's incredibly disappointing.
