Not surprised to be on the top 5 here. Spain has a very bad perception of itself, and the 2008 recession hit so hard here that we pretty much never recovered from it. The country suffers a lot from being too dependant on tourism as well, and covid hit us like a truck. Now, with the Ukraine war and the everstopping rise of prices, we seem to be in the verge of recession again, with absolutely no signs of a speedy recovery.
Ireland got its golden age with IT and we should try to get it with renewable energy, since we have a lot of empty space, tons of sunlight and have already a sizable eolic infrastructure, but our politicians' complete lack of awareness will probably bust it. Then foreign investors will take the opportunity and we'll keep being poor, yay!
