This infographic took me a while to wrap my head around, but it was very interesting once I figured it out.

Reply to Strange World fits nicely in Disney’s niche ‘animated sci-fi box-office bomb’ category by MuvyTikit
I think it's a bad take to interpret those box office results as having anything to do with the content of the movie.
Those box office results are what you get when you teach your audience that they'll get the movie with their Disney+ subscription. Families have been taught by Soul, Luca, Turning Red, and the rest, that they've already bought this movie when they subscribed to Disney+. What family is going to go take the whole family to see Strange World on opening day, but isn't going to count themselves among the 221million Disney+ subscribers? I really struggle to imagine that family.
Box office results are this super simple and clear metric of success, so I can see why everyone wants to keep evaluating movies based on that. The box office sales of Encanto were some indication that disney fans would go back to theaters. But Disney+ subscriptions have doubled since Encanto came out. It's bigger than Netflix.
I think we're entering an era where box office results simply won't tell the story of whether a movie is a success or failure.
