fr though, don’t throw the box away yet. Use it for a few weeks and see if it truly doesn’t bother you. I had mine for about a month before returning, because by the 2nd week i realized that i genuinely didn’t want to use them because my neck started hurting from using them. By the third week i barely used them, rather going for my HD600, despite them having inferior sound in most aspects. I ended up returning the Xs and getting my Mezes instead.

I’d say it’s the opposite of most high end headphones. Most are master of one aspect but lack in others. Like the HD800s have great soundstage but lack bass, LCD-X have great sound but lack soundstage etc. The 109s on the other hand aren’t the best of perfect in any way, instead it’s very good at most things. A Jack of all trades master of none if you will. So for me as a student, that’s exactly what i need.

But they also have a trick up their sleeves. They lie like nothing else. They’re like an insurance salesman crossed with a televangelist. Even horrible underground metal or rap recordings sound good on them. It’s like they’re somehow not revealing and have great detail. Like, my best recordings sound just as good with all the details as they did on my LCD-X, and at the same time my worst black metal recordings that were unbearable on the X sound mesmerizing on these.

Ended up returning my pair of LCD-Xs. I just don’t have the neck of an f1 driver. After returning them at my local store i accidentally ended up trying some headphones, and they had just gotten the 109 pros in. It had the same magic, but with more punch and half the weight. Was so wowed that i ordered them then and there.

Because i trust the sound engineer who designed the sound signature more than my own or some audio reviewer’s ability to set a headphone’s sound up well. If i adjust bass i might be losing details in the highs, if i adjust upper mids i might be losing lower mids. Headphone tuning is more complex than 12 graphs. There’s a lot more that goes into good sound than whether a sound comforms to an arbitrary target or my preferences which are largely based on what i’ve listened to before.

Next step chord mojo 2 and more expensive cans?

Had been rocking the hd600s up until recently. Got some money back on taxes and decided to splurge on some LCD-Xs. While they are better in most ways (and especially for EDM and house) they are not close to 5 times better. I’d say 15-20% better for everything except EDM or house. You got your eyes on an upgrade yet? 😏
