People are just weirdly insecure over certain brands here, Le creuset being one of them. I have a full set of le creuset pans I received as a hand me down and they’re nothing special. They’ve survived a long time but so have my generic stainless steel saucepans and they’re a lot more user friendly.

People want to feel like they’ve invested in the right thing. I get that 100%. This is an open forum though, and I have a lot of experience with their products. I stand by it, they’re a status display for middle class people.

Got a no name one from Amazon off the outlaws years ago, still going strong. I wouldn’t pay what le creuset charge, it’s a middle class status purchase at this point. I’m sure they’re great but enamelled cast iron is enamelled cast iron. Treat it right and it’ll treat you right. There’s not much more to it.

Doesn’t really apply to razors though. It’s entirely subjective, I’ve tried the lot over the years, modern, vintage gillette, adjustable, non adjustable and the one I’ve picked from the lot is an under engineered, no fuss simple plastic wilko sword. It’s miles more comfortable than any other safety razor I own.

Just a side note, the Mexican and Honduran made Carhartt stuff is still extremely rugged. I’ve got we’ll over ten years on a Mexican made Carhartt jacket and the built quality is amazing. It’s mostly US materials too if that matters.

Carhartt stuff from the far east is a different story. It’s normally from the ‘WIP’ line which isn’t workwear, more lifestyle. This is where the confusion seems to stem from when people talk about drops in quality from Carhartt.

Devils advocate, I’ve not actually tried them myself. I’m gonna pull the trigger on some in the next couple of weeks though. I have a colleague who is super anal about the denim they wear and is big into Levi’s Japan and Edwin etc. They told me uni qlo are up there with the best of them. The fact they offer odd numbered waist sizes is a good sell for me too.

I wouldn’t go as far as to say completely false. The studies linking it with neuro-degenerative diseases have been inconclusive to the best of my knowledge. Aluminium is still pretty unsafe to ingest in any form though.
