People are just weirdly insecure over certain brands here, Le creuset being one of them. I have a full set of le creuset pans I received as a hand me down and they’re nothing special. They’ve survived a long time but so have my generic stainless steel saucepans and they’re a lot more user friendly.
People want to feel like they’ve invested in the right thing. I get that 100%. This is an open forum though, and I have a lot of experience with their products. I stand by it, they’re a status display for middle class people.

Got a no name one from Amazon off the outlaws years ago, still going strong. I wouldn’t pay what le creuset charge, it’s a middle class status purchase at this point. I’m sure they’re great but enamelled cast iron is enamelled cast iron. Treat it right and it’ll treat you right. There’s not much more to it.

Nalgene will last you decades and aren’t expensive.
Your budget needn’t be anywhere near £50. That’s ludicrous money for a water bottle.

Reply to comment by bi_polar2bear in If you shave, get a shaving handle that uses a simple disposable razor. The razor lasts much longer than anything at your local store and provides a better shave. by bi_polar2bear
Doesn’t really apply to razors though. It’s entirely subjective, I’ve tried the lot over the years, modern, vintage gillette, adjustable, non adjustable and the one I’ve picked from the lot is an under engineered, no fuss simple plastic wilko sword. It’s miles more comfortable than any other safety razor I own.

Just a side note, the Mexican and Honduran made Carhartt stuff is still extremely rugged. I’ve got we’ll over ten years on a Mexican made Carhartt jacket and the built quality is amazing. It’s mostly US materials too if that matters.
Carhartt stuff from the far east is a different story. It’s normally from the ‘WIP’ line which isn’t workwear, more lifestyle. This is where the confusion seems to stem from when people talk about drops in quality from Carhartt.

You likely made the right decision. I’ve a Gillette from 1958 that still works and shaves to a super high standard. They’re built to last and cheap to run, unlike the Harry’s and dollar shave club crap other users recommended.

Second leaf. The initial investment isn’t chump change but DE blades can be had for next to nothing, it makes shaving so so affordable.

Excellent idea this. I just really hope it doesn’t become a darn tough/ cast iron/ redwing circle jerk like this place kind of has.

Couldn’t be less cool. Staple of hooligans who won’t let go of their past and coke heads. Overpriced for the quality too.

I’m so tired of this misinformation. The batteries get recycled. It’s really simple.

Devils advocate, I’ve not actually tried them myself. I’m gonna pull the trigger on some in the next couple of weeks though. I have a colleague who is super anal about the denim they wear and is big into Levi’s Japan and Edwin etc. They told me uni qlo are up there with the best of them. The fact they offer odd numbered waist sizes is a good sell for me too.

I’m told Uni Qlo are great and they’re a fraction of the price of Levi’s.

I’m not sure. I try to limit how much I use it in cooking. I’d assume it’s generally fine for food storage though.

I wouldn’t go as far as to say completely false. The studies linking it with neuro-degenerative diseases have been inconclusive to the best of my knowledge. Aluminium is still pretty unsafe to ingest in any form though.

Just got a Kavu one recently. Seems well made and has held up well so far. Maybe not the most robust though, quite thin.

This is key. Even a Le Creuset won’t hold up well if the owner uses it like a dick. You stick to silicone or wooden cooking utensils when using even cheap cast iron and you’re gonna be okay. I’ve got two years on a no name cast iron Dutch oven and it’s still going strong.

I don’t find this constant spamming of Heinz advertisement particularly uplifting.
They’re not doing it to throw this guy a bone, they’re doing it to get trending and sell more.
