Reply to Finally reading Tolkien by jdbrew
I liked Tolkien, but not enough to reread them again. I realize now that I like the movies better than the books, although I do mourn the fact that they didn’t include Tom Bombali (pretty sure I spelled his name wrong) and Goldberry. If there was ever a novel that focuses on Eowyn as main character I would so be on board to read that novel. I feel like The Lord of Rings could do better if they had focused on few characters and broke them into series of each character so I don’t get lost with all the storylines I’m supposed to follow.
However, I am glad others have come to love Tolkien. I am also fine with people not liking him. His prose is not for everyone.

It’s great series for discussing how it is a story about surviving under an oppressive government and how that can cause trauma. How it’s not about a love story, but a story of people binding together to survive, when everyone knew in the end they would still be fucked over by the government.

Just googled him and it came up that he’s on the radio. Which I knew for a long time. Just didn’t know what he talks about. I don’t pay attention to radio or the people who do radio. I did find that website that goes into details of what he talked about on the radio. I’m surprised he wasn’t kicked off the radio for things he said.

What’s wrong with Rush Limbaugh? People kept telling me he wears cochlear implant and I’m like, “ok.” Me being deaf myself, I guess they figure I know every famous deaf person. 🤷♀️🙄

Not really. I tend to only look authors up if I like their book so much that I’m curious if they wrote other book similar to the book I read.
If author’s dead I would be more likely to look them up.
I am really interested in the stories, not their storytellers if that makes sense.

Reply to Just finished Fairy Tale by Stephen King - And i have a complete opposite opinion than the majority by Sinsai33
People like his books because he’s a big time author. His Fairy Tale seems similar to others. Only difference in Stephen King’s case is he likes to go into details about EVERYTHING. It feels like he doesn’t know how to just make a story go forward without mentioning the dog is hungry. Without mentioning the kid is not into school. Mentions bicycle scenes. These do not really make the story move forward, but feels like a slice of life mixed with fairy tale writing.
I don’t like his style of writing, but I have noticed that his era of writing has other writers who write like him where they write everything makes me think it was popular to write it that way in his time.
I loved Dragon’s Eye by him and that was actually the only book I really enjoyed of his. I did read The Shining and Doctor Sleep but I liked the movies better.

Reply to Just finished Book Lovers by pinkmapleleaf
I had been wanting to read Writers & Lovers but grabbed wrong book and that was Book Lovers. Ended up donating it after reading it. (I was on vacation when I went to the bookstore for a book to read since I had already finished all of my books I brought with me on vacation). I already forget what the book was about.

I tried It two times and gave up. I only made it past ten pages both times. I’m not sure why because the movie was amazing.

Don’t they have library cards that has age restrictions so kids couldn’t check out when it was not appropriate for a child to check out? I know I use to have that when I lived in Nashville, TN when I was a kid.
