Download Lightroom and shoot in RAW. It’s free except for certain, non-essential editing features. As long as you don’t mind spending time editing photos it’s better. As far as editing goes, Snapseed does a pretty good job with RAW images and it’s completely free.

You are not imaging things. It’s terrible. I wish we had an option to choose between their neural engine for typing and the old fashioned on-device dictionary. The dictionary was far more accurate.

I have to believe Apple has done its due diligence when it comes to finding out what the average smartphone user wants out of their camera. If you (like me) don’t care for the default iPhone camera output, then continue to shoot in ProRaw or use Lightroom Mobile to capture DNG images. That way you’ have the latitude you need to make your photos look the way you want.

Even if you had a professional-grade camera, you wouldn’t be happy with the native jpeg output; the algorithms that choose the level of sharpening, the colors, etc are designed around the average person. This is why most photographers shoot RAW.
