If I was to be extremely, undeservedly charitable, I'd say he perhaps thinks you responsible for his wife's death and treats you accordingly (as irrational and unjustified as that is). Considering how misogynistic he is though, it's more likely he just resents that you can't fully replace the bangmaid he lost.
