The highway was desperately needed at the time (and still needed). There were no viable alternatives at the time and this route was the least destructive too.

The entire second amendment was designed in part by slave holders to be able to maintain the freedom to control their slaves. To be able to quickly crush any sort of slave rebellion and to be able to defend the institution of slavery. Not just to combat a tyrannical government.

Nothing in there about arms for self defense, only reference is for militia purposes. Nothing in Madison's notes either.

Textualism would require a return to muskets.

What's the obsession with needing to carry a gun everywhere? I understand the concept of "need" vs. "freedom to". But some of you are just odd "I won't go to MA because I can't take my gun".

Is this a fear or some attempt at a political statement?
