I don’t know if I have one. I love Martin Scorsese, but I almost like him more as a public academic than a director (though I love his films).

I’ve been on a Fellini binge lately, but while his good films are masterpieces, there’s a fair amount of stuff I don’t respond to.

I think David Lynch is great, but outside of Mulholland Drive, I have to be in the mood.

Billy Wilder might be a good answer, but I’m not sure his highs counteract the lows.

Wong Kar Wai? Guillermo Del Toro? Again, too few films that I love, but the ones I love, I love deeply.

It’s really hard, so I’m much happier making top 5 or 10 lists.

The original Star Wars trilogy.

I think it was either on USA or TNT, but when I was a kid in the mid 90s Star Wars played on cable during the Christmas season. I don't think it was every year, but I distinctly remember at least one year when I was about 9 or 10 playing with some Robotix toys and watching Empire Strikes Back.

It's absolutely a core memory for me.
