I need the citation on people hating the movie. Sure there are probably some people who don’t care for it, but it’s one of the most acclaimed and beloved movies of all time.

Reply to What non-Christmas movie do you always associate with Christmas because that was when you first saw it? by Twigling
The original Star Wars trilogy.
I think it was either on USA or TNT, but when I was a kid in the mid 90s Star Wars played on cable during the Christmas season. I don't think it was every year, but I distinctly remember at least one year when I was about 9 or 10 playing with some Robotix toys and watching Empire Strikes Back.
It's absolutely a core memory for me.

I don’t know if I have one. I love Martin Scorsese, but I almost like him more as a public academic than a director (though I love his films).
I’ve been on a Fellini binge lately, but while his good films are masterpieces, there’s a fair amount of stuff I don’t respond to.
I think David Lynch is great, but outside of Mulholland Drive, I have to be in the mood.
Billy Wilder might be a good answer, but I’m not sure his highs counteract the lows.
Wong Kar Wai? Guillermo Del Toro? Again, too few films that I love, but the ones I love, I love deeply.
It’s really hard, so I’m much happier making top 5 or 10 lists.
