Reply to LPT request: Moving out of the city for the first time at 18 in a rented apartment, any tips? by GauravxAg
Fully document the conditions when you move in.
Don't have the bills sent to your parents, pay them yourself. (Even if they are giving you the money.) This will help establish good habits, and give you a track record for paying bills. (Make sure to pay on time, you want the record to be a good one.)

How old is it? Some of the newer ones you don't replace the battery. They just have batteries meant to last the life of the detector (10 years.)

Reply to LPT: If you're checking a bag on a flight, mark it so it's easily identifiable from a distance, especially if the bag is black. I tie a bright red ribbon on the handle. This makes it much easier to spot on the carousel or if someone else tries to walk away with it. by ihavethebestmarriage
Years ago, while waiting for our luggage after a flight, the recording to make sure you had the right bag said, "Check your tags, there are lots of black suitcases with red ribbons."

Works for me, assuming you mean your right side as you stand at the foot of the bed, facing it. Of course, top left would also work.
