I had a very quiet cat who absolutely loved Napalm Death. I would put it on and she would try to crawl into the speaker horn. When she wouldn't fit, she started laying on the speaker while it played. And she would get really angry when it turned off. I tried other similar bands but she didn't like them as much. I don't know why Napalm Death but that was her favourite.

Her sister loved Yoko Ono. Especially when Yoko went "AIEAIEAIEAIEAIEAIEEEEEEE!!" When she wanted to hear Yoko, she'd sing just like that. I didn't know cats could sound like that but she mimicked it perfectly.

The words are ones to live your life by.

"You are the crown of creation and you've got no place to go. Soon you'll have taken the stability you strive for, in the only way that it's granted: in a place among the fossils of our time."

Sounds a bit like Kanye trashing his career, doesn't it?

Then there's the punchline:

"Life is change. How it differs from the rocks. I've seen their ways too often for my liking. New worlds to gain. My life is to survive and be alive for you."

I first heard the song when I was about 9 or 10 years old and while I didn't understand the words at the time, at 55 I do, and I realise that one song shaped the way I live my life -- frugally and as offgrid as is feasible. I have indeed lived my life so far to survive and be alive for you.

Bandcamp. Resident Advisor. Pitchfork. Wire Magazine. Rock is now niche so if you want the traditional band skilfullly playing instruments I see it most in the eclectic and metal scenes. I'm not really looking because I'm open-minded enough to accept however the music is realised and don't need someone manipulating instruments in a rock band.

I personally can't stand her because she comes on like she's on enough downers to stun an ox. That sleepy, croaky cursive singing with all the vocal fry -- that's ridiculously repellant to me. For today's music I find the most fun in x-wave (synthwave, vaporwave, mallwave, etc.), and most of that stuff is free. Psytrance is golden too. The only thing remotely like her that I like (because it's funny) is Gayle "ABCDEFU" but once or twice every couple of months is plenty to hear that song.
