Reply to Mel King, whose 1983 mayoral campaign ushered in a new era in Boston race relations, dies at 94 by dble-u
My 79 year old father grew up in the south end, poor. He participated in some of the things Mel set up for disadvantaged kids. Mel King was a great man.

Im in Boston and I’m 54 Never experienced it this bad before. Boston broke a record last held in 1881 so I assume the same is true for where you are.

You’ll be fine with that salary and should be able to rent a one bedroom. Rents are too damn high, but you won’t need roommates if that’s your combined salary. Tufts is a fine place to do residency Unless you are focusing on pediatric care

I’m not Jewish but I’ve been to Malmehs and liked it, also Zaftigs and Kupels. I know it’s not the same as New York.

I met Ted Kennedy and his son Edward in 1980 when Ted ran for president. I was 12. Kennedy was visiting area homes in NH of registered Democrats and he came to one in my neighborhood. He was also supposed to come to ours. He was running late so they canceled our house. The next day Ted sent his son and a campaign person to personally visit us and apologize ( Ted also called my parents) I have a vague memory of my family taking a walk with the son and we talked about his wooden leg because I was 12 and asked about it.

I’d get them maple syrup or those candies made out of maple syrup as one thing. Perhaps a scarf knitted locally?

I’m so sorry that your mother had to suffer this way, and I’m sorry for your loss. I did sign a petition to support Death With Dignity.
