We used to play in abandoned houses/buildings and on the top of a mile-long stretch of abandoned elevated train stations.

Our parents especially hated the second one but that just meant that we'd duck a little lower while passing through the portion of it that overlooked our street.

This would have been me as a kid.

I used to stuff weeds into the drains on my block to "feed the Ninja Turtles." My elderly neighbor would just smile and nod like I was doing a good thing, and then pick it all out after I went in the house so that the block wouldn't flood next time it rained. Lol

True, indeed. I assume the cops living in Manhattan are living in rent controlled apartments they grew up in, or still living with family. Probably mostly Black and Hispanic cops living Uptown. But idk for sure.

Believe it or not, you actually have to have at least 60 college credits to become an NYPD officer (unless you're ex-military). So most cops you see around have gotten at least halfway to a bachelor's degree.

Which probably says a lot about higher education in this country.

I think it gets a little dicey for native Emirati Muslims (like they're technically not supposed to drink but it's not entirely enforced), but the country's population is 89% expats. Which includes a lot of people (mostly Indians, Pakistanis, Filipinos, etc but also Brits, Americans, Africans, Canadians, etc) who were born and raised there.
