Fun fact: that Subway building is weird looking because it used to be a White Tower, an old rival of White Castle.

That’s the safest maneuver when Belvidere has greens in both directions. When Franklin has a green and the crosswalk is counting down, the logical and legal westbound bike move is to go straight through the intersection. But you 100% have to bike defensively and assume the cars don’t see you because turning cars rarely yield there.

Going westbound on Franklin in the bike lane is a nightmare. Car drivers going eastbound and turning left onto Belvidere rarely look for on-coming cyclists, especially when they are trying to beat the light.

You know, there are worse hills to die on. Those were simpler times, back when Ron was blasting the RTD comment section on every article every day.

Not sure when it will be installed, but a traffic signal is actually planned at that intersection.

I was walking into Roots across the street when a flurry of cops, an ambulance, and a fire truck showed up to the intersection. They took a stretcher into the Village Cafe and brought out a man who was wearing a neon yellow safety vest. He was holding a towel to his face, but luckily he didn’t appear to be in a life or death situation. As I was leaving, they were roping off the intersection with crime scene tape and my phone buzzed with the VCU alert.
Really messed up that someone would shoot a parking meter worker just trying to do a job and make money.

Could be a stolen vehicle that was dumped overnight. No bystanders, and the operator would have fled.

Do you have more info on the zoo breeding a kind of wild cat and releasing them into the wild? I know the zoo has a pretty successful cheetah breeding program, but I figured all of those cubs would stay in captivity. From what I understand, it’s very rare for animals born and raised in captivity to be released into the wild.

Your estimate for a 5+ year process is most likely. These types of projects are very slow moving, especially when they aren’t politically charged.

In theory, Virginia is no longer partisan gerrymandered. However, the Supreme Court of Virginia is majority republican, and judges these days are partisan.

After the last court case ruling in October, the indirect relatives had a window of time to appeal before the city could legally follow through with the ruling. The indirect relatives appealed, so here we are.

FWIW - During the early January 2018 cold snap, we had record lows of 2 degrees and -3 degrees on consecutive nights. In February 2015, it got down to 4 degrees. So single digits do happen, although they are rare.
