Reply to comment by aRoseBy in ELI5: Why does "turning it off and on again" work so well for troubleshooting? by WillShelbyOBE
Even after you shut down a computer or other device, there is still a residual charge left in the circuitry. To really reset to zero, that charge must be drained. This can be done by unplugging the device and waiting, or unplugging and holding the power button to try to turn the device on. Either way, the charge dissipates.

It is in fact a horcrux in HP terms. Sauron died, all that was left behind was the One Ring, which was forged with a piece of Sauron's essence. Because his spirit was anchored to the One Ring, Sauron was able to slowly reconstitute himself over centuries until re-emerging in Mirkwood, then being driven out of Mirkwood and returning to Mordor.

This is a lot more complicated than it looks, from the description in the article. That said, the Canadian court did find the 'landlord' was in the wrong.

If they do, they'll probably be back complaining that the Book of the New Sun is fantasy, not sci-fi, thus missing the point.

There's often sperm even in pre-ejaculatory fluid, so any unprotected sex could result in pregnancy.

Are you sure the year is 1992 and not 1972? That's a heck of a classic car to be driving in 1992.

WHERE DID YOU GET THIS
I've only seen these outside the US since McDonalds went to the crappy 'baked' apple bearclaw recipe. And I've been told that the factory that makes these, while it is still producing them for McDonald's, is based in Scotland.

Reply to Eli5: I don't understand why there seems to be a general consensus that gdp will continue a trend of growth, and why this would be beneficial, considering the cyclical nature of economies and empires rising and falling. Isn't economic downturn on some level unavoidable or even beneficial? by candymannequin
GDP measures economic activity, not the actual 'health' of the economy or how well people are living or how financially secure they are on average.
It's not really the best economic indicator, but its the one everyone points to.

It's almost like people are practicing against computer programs and learning from the computer program's tactics.
Also, for some odd reason, the computer programs use actual historical chess games as their database, much like humans followed and learned from actual historical chess games. I wonder why that is?

Reply to comment by warheadhs in ELI5: What’s car alignment? I read that cars should have it done regularly as part of their service. by LittleLostSadDeer
The difficulty with this is that most roads are curved or have a slight incline crosswise, to help shed rainwater. This also causes cars to never drive straight even when the wheels are properly aligned. A better indicator of misalignment is tire tread wear patterns.
