I didn’t know this and live a thousand miles away but will collect sometime in the future for nostalgia.

In my state there is a bonus on big prizes at least. I don’t buy except when the jackpot is huge but when I do it is always from one of the local family shops for exactly this reason. The over a billion mega millions sold in my town last year was at a corporate Kroger grocery store but I think they at least did something small for the staff at the store in celebration.
