Yeah, I struggle to understand why people get so worked up over the possibility that someone is getting satisfaction from doing good things. Why does it even matter why someone is doing it, as long as the end result is a good in itself?
See also: The hysteria over virtue-signalling. Like, who cares if someone is being smug? Smugness doesn't hurt people like racism or homophobia does.

This doesn't really address the previous point.
I mean it does prove that technically cops do their jobs occasionally, I'll give you that. Doesn't mean they aren't playing candy crush and doesn't mean that when they do get off their asses, they actually follow protocol.

The point is that supporting both is contradictory, yet many people do it. Because their issue with commemorating the exonerated people isn't that they were flawed individuals. It's something else.

I wonder what the overlap is between people who oppose this statue on those grounds and people who defend Columbus monuments or Trump votes. I'm guessing...very large.

If you put up a statue of someone, you better have a damn good reason and solve every associated problem. That's why they waited until the last concussion victim recovered before putting up the Rocky statue in Philly

I actually don't think whether or not they committed "other crimes" was the point of the post. The point was that they were wrongly accused due to racism.
As another commenter pointed out, it's never been a requirement that someone be perfect for a statue to be made of them. Why start imposing that requirement now?

Maybe acknowledge that being wrongly accused of rape is unjust regardless of whether you've stolen from someone. Team sports have nothing to do with it (unless you're suggesting that only one "team" says that).

Yeah, but those were white guys!! These are black teens and they might have stolen from people, so who cares if we wrongly accuse them of rape??

I'm not sure how similar that really is.
This isn't in a school where children legally need to attend, and it isn't a religious event.

Contact the NY State bar association if you think you might need a lawyer. Or if you have MetLaw or some other legal coverage or know a lawyer, get them involved. Let's not set a precedent of rolling over and playing dead.

Again, you keep acting like I'm defending NYC when I'm simply saying that clean streets are not a worthy tradeoff for a loss of civil rights for lgbt people. That fact alone makes it less desirable than any American city.
Just admit that you don't prioritize equal rights for LGBT people instead of hemming and hawing about how Singapore isn't so bad. It is if you're a second class citizen there.

>Holding a gay wedding isn't illegal in Singapore. You can't register it in the Registry of Marriages, but no one will arrest you for a destination wedding
Pretty sure this is reason enough to completely condemn Singapore dude. Refusing to recognize gay marriage in 2022 means you're ass-backwards on civil rights. It's non-negotiable.
So if your point is "Singapore is an okay place for human rights" then no, I don't think I've proven your point.
Jesus fuck these apologetics. "Aha! You claim you couldn't get married in Singapore, but you can... as long as you don't expect your marriage to be legally recognized in Singapore. Checkmate human rights!"
