Reply to Why are we not acidic? by stronkreddituser
Amino acids have a carboxylic acids group attached to a structure that also has an amine group. The amine group is basic. People hear the term "amino acid" and only recognize the acid part, but they are both acid and base. That is apparently how they get chained together. The charged amine group gets attracted to the charged carboxylate group and they stick together.

Ah. Yes, this is like con men who say "trust me" too much, specifically because they're trying to hide the fact that they're not trustworthy.

For a network named "Truth" the concentration of falsehoods and even false ads is just stunning. Do they have no self-awareness of irony and hypocrisy?

I have never heard the term 'enplaned' in my entire life, and I've been around for several decades. Don't they mean 'boarded' or 'on-boarded'?

Reply to [Image] Just don't quit. by Xenutja
Don't quit the things that matter most.
In the wrong context "don't quit" messages can be rather hilarious. Someone photoshopped a bunch of "don't quit" motivators into images of alcoholics trying to drink past their limit, and it resulted in a bunch of memes where you laugh but shake your head in disapproval the whole time.
In Ukraine, Russia is doing the "just don't quit" thing and it is actually risking their entire future. Sometimes you need to cut your losses too if it turns out the thing you started wasn't a good idea.

Certainly. But I think part of changing one's trajectory is acknowledging loss (even if that loss is some quality or position or status or ability) and giving oneself permission to grieve. Then, once that grief has been expressed and has been relieved, it is possible to move on without the internal encumbrance of unresolved grief.

It really matters what the trajectory of a person's life is. The guy on the left has a downward trajectory. The guy on the right may have an upward trajectory. If your life's trajectory is from good to bad, it is not a bad thing to grieve what was lost. Just don't forever stay in that state of grief.

You mean these magnets? I honestly don't know. I only know that they're really strong and don't contain rare elements.
Berkamin t1_iugyqom wrote
Besides this, there's also "clean earth magnets" that involve nothing but iron and nitrogen:
These magnets are allegedly more powerful than rare earth magnets, but neither of the ingredients that go into them are rare.

This is not fair. I'm a full grown man and this made me squeal. Do puppies know that they are this cute and deliberately do this? This is like having the master key to unlimited treats and cuddles.

Reply to How do I find these g-d studs?? by WaterChestnutII
Use the magnet method. Drywall is nailed on to studs. If you use magents and locate a column of three evenly spaced nails that line up vertically, you can be pretty certain that there's a stud there, especially if there's another column to the left or the right about 16" apart.
See this demonstrated in this instruction on making a DIY magnet stud finder made using a magnet, dental floss, and tape:
