The Eddy is my pick. Not quite Providence... but Bywater also has killer cocktails. Avery / Glou / Tiny Bar all have ok drinks but they mostly just taste like sweet juice (not a ton of nuance).

As a brand & signage designer... I am begging businesses in Providence to hire me so I can do something more interesting and nuanced than more millennial pink 😇

TBH I have not really followed any of the intel on Little Sister besides people alluding to something suss in this reddit—is there a summary somewhere? I went there once for brunch and had an ok time but nothing to write home about + don't know anything about the mgmt!

Second this! I am always shocked by how few places I can find a pastry or even a good sandwich after 3-4pm around here! Let alone coffee at 7pm (easy where I used to live in Brooklyn) 🥲

True, though Little Sister is only open on weekends now so I feel like they have already taken themselves out of the running!

My hot take is that getting something from an individual landlord / owner will be cheaper and likely better quality than anything from the bigger management companies—I live in a beautiful 3 bedroom on the West side for $1500 that I rent directly from the owner (who lives on the third floor). I would be thoughtful about what neighborhoods you are interested in (and I second most of what's been said here: West side is nice, Pawtucket itself nearer to Hope, Cranston and Attleboro generally) and do some zoom walk throughs with people on Craigslist!

I've literally been saying for YEAAARRSSS that anyone who opens one will make so much money because of all the transplants + college students here. I know people talk about Bubbie's but I don't feel like they really exemplify the full Jewish deli vibe—I'm talking RRuss and Daughters / S&P "appetizing" style counter service, matzoh ball soup, matzoh brei, chopped liver, pickled herring, etc.

I'm really excited about Oak but as a NY transplant, I feel like calling it a "Jew-ish" bakery seems off when it seems more like "Israeli-ish"—they don't have a lot of the typical Ashkenazi pastries I would associate with a classic Jewish bakery on the East coast.

The Hope St. Seven Stars is also enough of a walk away to mean that these two will ultimately cater to different foot traffic ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I've seen a few of these posts recently and as a fellow new-ish, 28 year old female transplant working from home, I keep wondering if we should all just... mutually meet at Seven Stars sometime? Would anyone be down for real? I'm happy to plan and pull people into a dm!

Reply to Cellar Stories (book store downtown) is closing in January by EtAvec
This one hit hard. Cellar Stories is the first used bookstore I ever really went to and one of the places that made me really start to LOVE books. I remember going when the old owner Mike was still there and still feel very proud of the several wry conversations I managed to squeeze out of him. Their insta post about the history was really sweet. They'll be sorely missed!
