It's definitely different in more rural environments. I live in Vegas and most vehicles in the roads are massive trucks that are just pleasure vehicles.

Yes and the vast majority of people don't ever use them for those purposes. 75 percent of truck owners only use their truck for towing/hauling something other than grocery's 1 time or less a year.

They do not use those capabilities the vast majority of the time.
I truly believe the truck trend is the single worst thing that has happened in the last twenty years, strictly from a environmental stand point.
I also believe there is no reason for people to spend 450-650 a month on a truck they don't need.
Edit: this is a direct quote from a study done by strategic vision.
"According to Edwards’ data, 75 percent of truck owners use their truck for towing one time a year or less (meaning, never). Nearly 70 percent of truck owners go off-road one time a year or less. And a full 35 percent of truck owners use their truck for hauling"
