So will dogs or even other humans if they get hungry enough. Basically, anything or anyone close to you could eat your dead body if they're starving, which your pets would be if you died alone and they have no way out of your house. This survival behavior is not just limited to cats and you're dead anyway so why would you care?

There's a verse in the Bible that mentions something about the gates of hell and has Jesus telling Peter that he's giving him the keys to heaven; some Christians interpret that as meaning Peter is the guardian of heaven and is the one who greets people on arrival and lets them in. A quick google search says it's Matthew 16:18-19.

Exactly. You're not removing your attention from the other person when you light a cigarette; you're still fully present and responsive to them. Going on your phone is effectively shutting out the other person and is even worse if you're texting someone else/checking social media. It's like you're saying they're good enough to fuck but not to talk to.
