Looking at the sky I'm guessing you got here earlier but the setting sun cast horrible shadows so you had to wait until sunset even if that was your plan.
Its crazy how bad it looks before the sun sets.

Really 14mm? Nice. I just checked my photos and realized I mainly was looking at the film sots which were 24mm, because its a film camera. My other one was 16mm and was quite close though I didn't get to this nice of a spot.

Facts. Its amazing people dont fall in on a daily basis there. We saw a guy jump the railing and trip. Inches from going in because he was going for a IG video or something. Ridiculous.

Special as in wide angle and still rectilinear. On a camera that isn't standard at all especially with good glass. Phones have definitely come a long way though.

Been a while since I hiked that much.
Gotta go back there again too. We also did Antelope Canyon since its like 10min away but there was so much wind it was blow sand and quite large rocks into the canyon so we got rushed.

Part of being a photographer is just knowing you can't convey what it feels to be standing there taking in the grandeur of the view.
I bet you are a great one too. A shot that wide needs special lenses. 11mm on FF?

Now that I have been there. Every picture of horseshoe bend doesn't do justice to just how large it really is.

I did the same. Forced my wife to get up early and we ran the trail to get about 15min of pics before it was ruined by the sun. Not a cloud in sight. Pics were worth it because we went back with the rest of the family the the harsh shadows killed it.

Landscape is in fact incredibly hard to make to make a career out of.

When I was there the sun just washed out all the harsh shadows. Its was terrible. I had to tell my family just to wait and when the sun slipped below the horizon it was a magical frantic moment as I was shooting digital and slide film at the same time.
