Fr. People in florida and texas literally get shot over parking spaces all the time. Combine that with the lack of space and psychotic drivers of NJ. It will start being a routine occurrence here.

This is also why I never honk people anymore. I would rather be late to my destination than have somebody assault me or destroy my car.

Churches have lots of old people that vote, and just due to the nature of it being a religious thing, it’s political suicide for an elected official to do anything to piss them off. Thus behavior like this being tolerated.

Idk about tex mex, but my favorite Mexican place is Mi Pueblito in North Arlington. And I have Mexican friends that will vouch for it.

Your search might be fruitless... some foods are just regional. Like trying to find a NJ/NY bagel in Texas. They can't make them the same

West part, past Kennedy, it's alright. There are always spots.

If you are closer to Palisade and get home after 6 or 7, forget it. There's almost nothing. Most people just park on crosswalks or bus stops at that point and move it early to avoid a ticket.

You aren't forced to use NJ EZPass. It gives you a small discount on the Turnpike/Parkway but only during off-hours. You might be better off getting EZPass from New York or another state.

New York EZPass lets you deduct tolls straight from your checking account. No deposit or replenishment amount. That's what I do.

Not true at all. Hoboken has small streets that you can’t speed on, plus some of the drivers will actually stop for you to cross at a crosswalk which is unheard of in JC. And Union City is littered with like 3 speed bumps on every single block, and every stop sign is an all-way stop. The problem in Jersey City is there is nothing stopping people from driving insanely fast.

NYC has widespread red light & speeding cameras, and for a certain class of reckless drivers it’s useless because they will either use fake/obscured plates or simply not pay any of the tickets. Even suspending people’s license doesn’t really work because most people will just drive on the suspended license anyway.

If you could buy beer at the convenience store/grocery store like a normal place, there probably wouldn’t be so many. There are delis near my house that are “liquor stores” just so they can sell a small selection of beer. It’s dumb

Head up to Union City sometime, it’s completely spotless. The presence of trash cans makes a huge difference. But it’s a lot of labor to maintain them, and UC also has people going around all day to sweep the sidewalks. If Brian Stack didn’t have so much clout I doubt the city would have the money for it

Under NJ law, this is not a crime. So if you are ever asked if you’ve been convicted of a crime, you can truthfully answer no (assuming you haven’t committed another crime).

Court records are public so it will be out there, but it’s very unlikely it would show up on a background check that employers or landlords use. Fare evasion tickets are pretty run of the mill. It would be like hassling someone for a speeding ticket, nobody really cares.

I wouldn’t call the heights a transit desert, but definitely underserved given the density of the area. Imo, the coverage is fine, I.e. you could leave all the bus routes & light rail as they are, it’s the frequency that’s the problem. Every bus and the light rail should basically be running double what it runs now.

The jitneys/immis/minibuses pick up some slack, but they dropped off after covid, and are honestly just awful. I feel for the drivers and their need to make a livelihood but this shit should not exist in a first world country. They are not accessible to the disabled, have no real timetable, pollute and drive like maniacs… and I can’t use them because they don’t take my NJT monthly pass. They should be real NJT buses.

I was recently in Staten Island and realized that the buses in this random suburban neighborhood of SI came twice as often as the buses on Palisade Ave or Kennedy. Like a neighborhood of random single family homes with better transit service than some of the densest parts of the country. NJ is just pathetic in this regard.

I’m surprised this isn’t more common knowledge. There’s probably almost a million people on this plan. If they hit you you’re literally getting nothing. Uninsured/underinsured coverage is a must.

Although I guess it’s marginally better than them driving uninsured, which is what most of them would end up doing. Got to get to work somehow.

Union City NJ is impeccably clean. The demographics are similar to North Ward Newark or the Ironbound. It comes down to:

  1. Most people give a shit. When the city isn’t already filthy you appreciate it and want to keep it that way.
  2. The city pays people to go around and sweep streets. Every street will get probably 4 or 5 passes in a day.
  3. Public bins on almost every corner, with bag liners, and emptied frequently.
  4. The city has strict code enforcement and does not tolerate bullshit from absentee landlords the same way most places do. If there is an issue with a particular building or area, someone will complain and the city will deal with it.

The bus stop parking is a serious issue and I wouldn't be surprised if there is some ADA litigation in the future, or maybe already in the works. San Fransisco is removing parking at all their bus stops and some other cities have been successfully sued for deficient bus stops

The parking always comes up as a political issue in Hudson county and I think people are delusional. WNY has 50 thousand people crammed into about a square mile. Where the hell is there room for everyone's car?

Even if you added more spots, people will just buy more cars for their family and fill them all up. The lack of parking is the limiting factor on how many cars people will own.

>I thought we had an unspoken understanding that after 6 pm and before 8 am, you parked where you could

You're really pushing it. It's more like 10pm to 7am.

Personally, I find the habit of parking all over bus stops and curb ramps to be completely obnoxious especially to the disabled. If you need a guaranteed parking spot at night it's something you should account for when you're looking for your apartment/house.

Also, WNY has residential parking permits. They were probably giving tickets for that.
