I got an offer in Yonkers and would need my own car for the job. I am fine living up to 30min away since I need a car for the job anyways.

Just trying to figure out where I can afford to live without having to worry about being in a shit neighborhood.

My spouse would work part time too but she's unskilled so we try not to rely on her income.

That's more than what half the people here make. Most people make in the upper 30s lower 40s. They live with someone else and get by. You can get by on just your income.

No, $100,000 would get you by, but not comfortably. Rents are very high for the lack of services. Garbage everywhere and roads are undriveable. White Plains would give you a better value and they have a real school system.

Ok I'll check it out.

I want the job and am willing to take a quality of life hit to experience living near NYC, but if it's unaffordable then I'll just pass haha

Where are you moving from? Living in Yonkers to “live near the city” might feel frustrating. It’s not close enough to feel worth it. We are not on a subway line. You’ll need to take metro north and deal with finding parking at/near a train station, which isn’t always easy. Or take the bus. Idk. I used to live in Astoria and it was so much more accessible, just hop on the subway. Cheap and easy. Yonkers feels so far, more than I expected. This is why I don’t work in the city, and instead drive really far north for work. It’s easier than the commute to the city.

Is that household income or single income ?

100k for a single person in Yonkers is fine. 1 bedroom rent is about 1500-2200 depending on neighborhood

You are a troll account. You of all people should know you cant live good in Yonkers. You live with Lorraine and have no expenses. If you had to fend for yourself without her money you would be living in Mount Vernon.

You can live good in Yonkers and there are many nice areas.. but if you're willing to drive 30 minutes then I would also look at Tuckahoe, Eastchester, Bronxville, Scarsdale, Hartsdale, Hastings on Hudson, Dobbs ferry, and Irvington, as well.

They are all way under 30 minutes away from Yonkers and generally nicer than many Yonkers neighborhoods..
