Whenever Israel gets attacked they always pretend they have no idea why it happened. Terrorism is always wrong and evil, but explaining why it happens is not the same as excusing it. If they stopped stealing Palestinian land by settling the west bank it would lower tensions in the region.

Did exiting Gaza and giving it over to the Palestinians in 2005, a full two years before the wall went up, help lower tensions?

The Israelis remember those two years. Constant explosions everywhere. On busses, in cafes, malls, and schools. They removed the settlers, withdrew the army, and gave the people of Gaza exactly what you're suggesting, but tensions increased, not the other way around.

The only way you believe tensions decrease is if you either don't remember 2005-2007, or if you somehow believe that an organization that doesn't recognize Israel and has a charter dedicated to freeing the land from the river to the sea is somehow going to change its MO because you feel like they should. Same goes for the Islamic jihad or the other small offshoots.

I doubt the people of Israel will ever fall for that again, much as we might want them to.

Israel treats Gaza like an open air prison, preventing them from trading or using the sea for commerce. And if one idiot fires a scud missle over the wall Israel responds with disproportionate bombing raids that destroy entire neighborhoods.

It's not hard to see why people living in the Gaza strip hate Israel.

Not only wrong, but also impossible because Egypt has a border with Gaza. Israel can't keep anyone inside. It also doesn't do it regardless.

It takes 3 seconds of googling to refute your claim.

But in 3 seconds you can't read that page to see that it refutes your claim.

What part of the claim is refuted by this?

And how does Gaza treat Israel? The jihadist terrorist groups that rule Gaza launch 1000s of rockets at israeli cities and towns hoping to kill as many israelis as they can.

It's important to ask why people in Gaza hate Israel. The hate doesn't come out of nowhere. Disproportionate retaliatory bombing by Israel only creates more terrorists. If Israel treated the people in Gaza as human beings and provided social programs and support instead of treating them as prisoners they would receive a different response.

[deleted] t1_j6jwj8d wrote

The hate comes from Israel stealing Palestinian land.

Have you been to Gaza? Where are you getting this information?

Pulling settlers off the west bank is the difference between a random guy in Gaza seeing someone with an RPG telling the authorities or ignoring it.

Gaza exports food and other products. Gazans regularly leave. The bombings are much more focused than that(edit: and are indeed disproportionate, since they were not enough to remove the threat). And the hate predates all of this.

>The Palestinian Authority is against the plan, threatening any Palestinian who takes advantage of Ramon Airport. Their stated reason? Because they insist they should have their own airports.

So Israel wants to build an airport that acts as a security checkpoint to monitor Palestinian's travel and you wonder why Palestinians are opposed to it? Seriously?

YairJ t1_j6jx0wy wrote

The airport was built a few years ago. The plan would simply give Palestinians a way to travel they didn't have before. And your excuse is even more lame than their dictator's.

All airports are security checkpoints, much of that prompted by Palestinians' pioneering work in aircraft hijacking.

[deleted] t1_j6jxlyn wrote

Not all airports are monitored by Israeli security forces trying to control Palestinians. They wanting their own airports is completely understandable.

Irrelevant. Restricting their travel isn't going to get them closer to that, easing their travel isn't going to get them farther from that. But as that article demonstrates, nobody cares less about Palestinians than Pro-Palestinians.

More empty buzzwords. In what prison can you store thousands of rockets under hospitals and schools and use them at a whim against civilians when your Iranian overlords tell you to?

Look at you acting like they lob one scud over. First of all, scuds are the wrong class of missile. You overshot on that one. But they fire thousands of them, so you massively undershot on the number. In fact, your mode of reasoning is a lot like those Palestinian rockets - absolute fucking trash that is as likely to hurt your people as it is to hurt the enemy. But we know that won't stop you or Hamas, right?

So Israel should keep it proportional? Is that for all countries or only the Jewish one?

So these terrorists are mad about land so they attack innocent civilians? Sounds logical
