Because of the irony. These workers got Russian citizenship to have an easier life. Now it's their Russian citizenship that might get them sent to die.

russia is looking at this war as both the opportunity to claim new territory and get rid of undesirables - it is a deeply racist and homophobic country.
We might be thinking that they are losing their most vulnerable male population (and they are - this will have a profound effect on their future) but they see it as a golden opportunity to get rid of all non-slavic people WHILE doing some conquering.
Being Ukrainian myself, I can say from personal experience, even in the Soviet Union - Ukrainians were considered 2nd class citizens, simple village type folks that can't really be smart and were constantly ridiculed by russians.

And Russia is forcing them. But to be honest, Ukraine's forces have quite a lot of older volunteers too, but the difference is they volunteered willingly and many of them vets from the now long conflict.

This is why the Russian public are generally unsympathetic to the idea of Ukrainian independence. They can't imagine that Ukrainians are anything other than lower than Russians. This is why Putin cannot have an independent Ukraine, because it will inevitably become more successful than Russia and when Russians see that they'll realise they've been fed lies.

One of the early cell intercepts of the invading russian troops calling home had this interesting episode -
This russian is calling his wife and is all very excited saying "OMG, their icecream is amazing, I ate like a kilo of it, so much better than ours! And you know what? Their villages all have asphalt roads and the houses, have you seen the houses? Lots of appliances in each of them! HOW DARE THEY LIVE BETTER THAN US!"

I remember one occupied home tagged up with "you live so well, why do you fight then?" They can't accept that Ukraine doesn't owe all it's prosperity to the Russian Federation that's done nothing but constantly fuck them over.

Those old Ukrainian vets aren't being used as cannon fodder but in training roles or leadership positions. And quite often those that aren't allowed to join are instead joining the local territorial defense. Got to remember Ukraine stop mobilization not because of the lack of manpower but the lack of training and equipment for them. In addition the shrinking front line mean they didn't want to pack more people in and make them easier targets. Russia doesn't care about any of those factors.
