I remember hearing speculation not long after they took over again that they would deliberately create humanitarian crises in order to get international aid packages. This was right around the moment they found out they wouldn't have access to the previous governments finances and they were getting black listed for aid from every western nation.

What makes them think they can rely on international aid?
When 50% of aid workers are barred from helping.

I think it was how they got by pre US invasion. Maybe they just assumed things would go back to that or something.

The problem is Afghanistan’s population has about doubled in the last 20 years.

The 3.5 billion of Afghan money seized by Biden sure would help

Tell you what; we'll have Biden return that money when Afghanistan returns the TRILLIONS of dollars that have poured into their coffers over the last 20 years. Fuckwit.

Oh right, those evil starving children. How dare they make Murica mad. Forgive me, genius. Oh, and those trillions mostly went to American corporations. Jackass.

Too bad the mothers of those starving kids can't work, or go to school, or do anything to better their situation.

And its population was only 10 million in 1990. 20 million in 2000.
This foreign aid extended in the first place is why you even have the problem, because it causes the population to balloon and hence become dependent on it, rather than become self-sufficient. It is simply an irresponsible policy. Hence why at the peak of it, the level that you ballooned it to, a collapse ensues, more dramatically than would have otherwise.
We can clearly see that what was done whatever amount of years ago didn't work, because you need to keep doing it even more. It was simply deferred and built up to even greater a magnitude.
