Who cares? East vs West comparisons are BS. Context matters. Most of the developed world is cutting Russia off in some non trivial way because they can - it's an opportunity they can afford and worth risking to defend democracy.

India doesn't have the same opportunity. Even just geographically, countries they share the same region with are fucked. There aren't any other major rich nations near to them who offer enough fair trade. Historically, Indians will not trust the rest of the world - WW2 and the aftermath is still remembered. After the current war, Russia is right there... And India will want their gas, oil and whatever shit they have. All the pieces India needs to sit on the side and not give a shit are there. If anything, the real opportunity is with the West and India - language is less of a barrier and culturally they retained many of the British colonials.

At best, they're giving themselves options. At worst they're playing the field to get the best deal. The latter is what is being criticized here - failure to act actually extends the current situation and introduces a higher likelyhood of nuclear weapons being used. Extending shit out means India gets nothing - more time will be needed for Russia to recover. If Russia loses, India permanently loses the opportunity to expand relationships with the West by failing to act when it really mattered. If nukes get dropped, living in India won't change much in terms of radioactive drop off when the winds start blowing it around, the rest of the world won't be able to lend support and India is in an even worse position given their population.
