People who have jobs and businesses that make them need to go there, diplomatic and embassy staff, families of people who work there, people on layovers, people going there for university seminars or to give training to people, curious adventurous travelers, Americans of Pakistani decent who need to go.
The Capitol of Islamabad is not really a tourist destination either. It’s basically a sterile planned city used only for politics. No real local culture or major sites of interest like other parts of Pakistan. It’s like Washington DC. A mix of everything in an organized manufactured city. I’m sure most Americans over there at that hotel are diplomats and their families, plus military contract people there Not just Americans either I’m sure when they say American citizens that kind of encompasses the other westerners and well to do Pakistanis that stay there.

I have dear friends that are Pakistani. One has a wedding in January. I want to be there for him but I'm an atheist, tall with long hair and white as fuck. Statistically I doubt anything would happen but I'm not known for having good luck either. I'd rather not chance it. Especially with the current political issues going on.

Money and geopolitics.
Did you forget that Americans just had a 20 year long war right next door in Afghanistan? And a decades long bubbling conflict in Iran, also next door? Not to mention it's other two neighbors, China and India.
It also happens to be a nuclear armed nation within spitting distance of the Persian Gulf.

You sound like someone who hasn’t traveled much. Visiting Pakistan as a tourist is basically as dangerous as visiting Paris or London. Not to mention Pakistan has some of the most awe inspiring and untouched natural beauty on the planet. Google images of Fairy Meadows or the Hunza Valley. And amazing food to boot. Also wicked cheap.

Pakistan is beautiful, that’s why. Geographically speaking, and also it’s people. Wonderfully hospital and humble. Touchingly so. Beautiful people.

Ffs…poor Pakistan is back in the shite. Afghan talibs giving it along the Durand line, corrupt politicians doing their selfless thing throughout the regions. It’s painfully regressive. We’re all slipping, some sooner than others. Much love to the common person in Pakistan.

Yeah, they need a complete overhaul, or a coup may occur.
