This is interesting. Hadn't heard of this. Do have a link to read up on? I know of Indian soldiers fighting the Ottomans in ww1 are you referring to that?

Errrr... The Battle of Haifa happened in 1918. Israel's independence came about in 1948. I think you got your wires slightly crossed.

You may be confusing the Indian soldiers who participated in conquering the region from the Ottomans during WW1, thirty years before Israel's foundation. It was done on behalf of Britain rather than the Jewish community. It did indirectly allow for Israel's formation, I'll give you that.

Initially India's position was politically not favorable to Israel. India was against Pakistan's creation for the same reason. Dividing countries by religion will only cause more conflict in the future. Especially the Pro Arab congress government post world war 2 wanted to balance peace in the region and not have Palestinians pushed out.
But that has drastically changed over the years with recognition and good co-operation in what has become a fight against religious terrorism. While politically India still supports Palestinian cause, it has become more pragmatic and less idealistic in its foreign policy. Not abandoning Palestinians at the same time grow it's co-operation with Israel.

We tend to forget the cold civil war against Muslims that has been real war in the past resulting in the creation of Bangladesh. So for India, helping Palestine also means giving a friendly signal to Iran and Russia and its Muslim neighbours. After all Russia is as big as half Africa or all the Muslim countries have a billion of people. India is constantly in a restrained conflict with China. They may not have heard about the Emirates making friends with Israel - or simply Iran is closer and more dangerous especially as it joined the Russian Chinese axis.

It took more than enough time to remove the British foot from the neck of India. It’s unsurprising that India recognises oppression when it see it.
