Question: is Russia that great of a market for these companies? Is it kickbacks they are getting? Access to resource or logistics? Like the oil companies being slow makes sense… but Mercedes? Dunkin? Etc?

For luxury car brands there are plenty of wealthy oligarchs to sell to.

Mercedes had something around 2% of it's sales in Russia. Which is not nothing but not life-threatenning for the company.
