This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 87%. (I'm a bot)

> King Charles will not attend the Cop27 UN climate summit, Downing Street has said, as it is not the "Right occasion" for him to do so.

> The former prime minister Liz Truss had asked the king not to attend the talks, and her successor, Rishi Sunak, had left that request in place, No 10 confirmed today.

> Downing Street said the absence of Sunak and the king did not mean environmental issues had slipped down the agenda because three cabinet ministers - the foreign, business and environment secretaries - would attend the summit.

It's nice to see the Royals being kept in check. Keep it that way, or just follow the lead of the US and France and get it of the Royals entirely.

Charles has been a big environmental campaigner before becoming king. If Rishi isn't going to bother showing up, we should at least send the head of state. The environment secretary is a joke, she was asked what she does to help the environment in her personal life and her response was she uses cups.

Prince William should go since he's the next one on the rung and Charles used to go when he was Prince of Wales.

Billy didn't make any agreements with PM Liz and Sunak not to go lol

But hours before this announcement, the environment secretary, Thérèse Coffey, described the summit as just “a gathering of people in Egypt”.

Asked why the prime minister was not attending, she told LBC: “The politically big significant things happen every five years … while at the same time, of course, the UK continues to show global leadership, as opposed to just a gathering of people in Egypt.”

When did clowns start taking over the administration in UK, this is just horrible and sad, how did it reach that point?

Keep the damn environmentalist away from all the capitalists already. Disinvited? Not invited In The first place? No difference.

Why even bother?

Poor nations are going to beg. Rich nation is going to say "no" except may be some empty promises if they feel charitable. Real action will be kicked down the road.

Has anyone actually learn from COP 1 through 26?
