The sheer amount of vile hate India receives on reddit always surprises me. It's truly the nation and ethnicity everyone is allowed to be racist to. Atleast China is feared, hope India reaches the same place.

Its mostly in the top level subs of reddit. The smaller ones hand out quick bans for racist comments. You just need to avoid these big subs.

And for those that's say its because of Ukraine War, nope. Its been going on since around 2014 atleast when I first started using reddit.

ScaryShadowx t1_je4191y wrote

It's because a lot of the West still have a colonial attitude and it often comes out whenever a country gets too 'uppity' and no longer 'knows their place' - which according to a LOT of people on this sub is serving US geopolitical interests.

The hate always comes out whenever India does something in its own interest or according to its own ideals.

Go to r/space and search India or ISRO (India’s Space Program) you’ll find threads with bunch of deleted comments and the comments which are not removed would be about why is everyone so racist there.

I would argue that all these hateful bigots are already afraid of India's rise.

They are afraid that China and India will call the shots for the next century, that hurts their fragile ego.

Probably because of the rampant issues India have with raping women and marrying kids. They also buy cheap oil from Russia. No wonder not many redditors are not liking India’s government much currently.

I don’t hate Indians they are lovely people that are generous with their time and know how to feed their guests but as a business I hate selling things to them.

India has problems, so does every country on the earth. Doesn't mean that you can be racist against them. US had like 90 shootings in this year alone, highest of any other country. Does that mean that I can be racist against americans?

39

Pale_Solution_5338 t1_je4931g wrote

What does racism have to do with that? I am not American and I am against gun violence but here we are. The important thing is the laws that the government enacts.

But kids, women and Russia is mostly what reddit is about currently so you have to understand the circumstances why India is not well seen at least on Reddit.

The most recent data on rape is sadly 2010, but the US reports 15x more rapes than India does. Now, I know about unreported rape, different definitions etc., but if you think that is enough to make India the Rape country of the world (which is by stats is the US, 84k rapes per 100,000 ppl), Then you are grossly mistaken.

India has a problem of rape. We agree. In fact it is a huge problem caused by a small population. But generalizing an issue to every citizen of India when the issue is caused by the type of people we Indians hate is annoying, irritating and frankly racist. I have seen so many comments asking why Indians are always horny, Why do they grope girls so often etc. It not only angers me but hurts me. India, while not the safest country ever is not a public orgy country or something ridiculous.

all of my stats are taken from the wiki (which tends to be biased slightly against India, but that's just my opinion).

7

Pale_Solution_5338 t1_je9ocna wrote

I’m talking about a crowd of boys forcing themselves in a school to grope girls.

Also India has a higher amount of unreported rape because it brings dishonour to the family and lower their chance of marriage so you can’t really use your statistics

I understand the data point, but at maximum its gonna be like 3x or 4x more than the reported cases. not fucking 15x.

I'm talking data, your talking about a video on reddit which probably has either been taken out of context, or been re uploaded a year or two later. I'm giving you facts, reply to me with facts, not a reddit video.

India buying the oil is preventing the world from the horror of Insane gas prices, which would cause the poorer countries of the world to default a lot more.

What India wants is issues not related to India or any other country not affect the world in such a severe manner. And they are willing to do anything for that.

India is not preventing anything they also sell goods to Russia. Technically India is helping the regime. I am calling you out on making excuses to justify these actions with unsubstantiated claims. India government is just trying to profit of the war crisis to buy oil cheap and increase their GDP

At the end it’s fine but don’t expect Redditors in general who feel the pain of the Ukrainians, to appreciate these actions AND OP coming out to cry about it

GDP per capita is the main metric used to label a country “developing”. If you decide to ignore the most key metric, you’re choosing to be a moron.

Reselects420 t1_je1yimn wrote

You can’t just make up your own metric of judging whether a country is developed or developing, and decide that everyone should update their dictionary.

Pakistan is a nuclear power with a GDP per capita only a little lower than India’s. Is Pakistan a developed country?

Here, I’ll do one better. Iran. Higher GDP per capita than India, space program, possibly nuclear status soon. Are they a developed country? If not, is it just the figure of exports that matters, not the distribution of that figure?

But they lack a space program and nearly a trillion in exports. And again "per capita" vs "total" is worth acknowledging, even if you reject its role in defining development.

> Here, I’ll do one better. Iran. Higher GDP per capita than India, space program, possibly nuclear status soon. Are they a developed country? If not, is it just the figure of exports that matters, not the distribution of that figure?

It's the combination of factors, as I've said from the start.

Generally population is a benefit, as in the case of China, which has the same population. After all more people = more people to generate GDP, which is why China has the world's second largest GDP.

India... well population appears to hit differently in India.

−5

brinjal_ke_kama t1_je3enqd wrote

Yeah and that's why stuff like big manufacturing and exports is needed. To raise the GDP per capita.

And while boon of high population is higher export numbers, its bane is that GDP per capita growth is slower.

But you'll ignore that, of course. Cos mom's basement feels nicer that way.
