Who the hell is buying margarine?

Exactly, and we know that egg producers made record profits at least in the states.

Spinning a supposed supply crisis into profits should be illegal.

Nobody's buying it, pretty clear signal the prices have to be raised!

The first time I saw the results from a GC mass spec analysis of a few different margarines was the last time I ever knowingly consumed margarine. If I see it on a list of ingredients I pick a different brand. Scary part is that was before companies dialed up the imported contents to boost profits.

Isn’t it really popular in the UK?

Butter isn't much better in inflationary terms, it's becoming a luxury. I'd rather go without than use margarine.

I wasn’t aware there was a vegetable oil shortage.

A lot of vegetable oil in the U.K. used to come from Russia and Ukraine

Well, idk about Ukraine, but at least Russia’s supply of vegetables seems to be growing rapidly

Those are smoked vegetables though. They make better sunflower oil.
