That's why it's called the danger zone baby!

On a more serious note, hope you get the car back!

Maybe the cross street where you last saw it— I’m sure there a hundred of red Hyundai in the DMV

If you own a Hyundai or Kia without a chipped key, you need to be on the look out and get a steering wheel lock.

These cars are extremely easy to steal, other cites have seen an enormous spike in Kia and Hyundai thefts, it’s coming to DC now. Insurance is starting to drop these cars in other states because of so many thefts.

Only put the plate if you have no unpaid citations. Else you’ll be made of an example.

Just share a partial of the plate only if you feel comfortable. To have the community be on the look out for your vehicle. Generally these are young adults doing this and they often break out the rear right window. Some MPD vehicles have tag readers, for stolen vehicles but not all. A buddy of mine had his Kia stolen from a metro station parking lot in Maryland and it was found a few days later in SE DC in some neighborhood. They did catch the kid though. I hope you get your vehicle back. If it’s found, you can always request brand new plates from the DMV. God Speed

No harm in putting the plate. An additional point of verification in case stickers are removed. I mean it’s displayed publicly when you drive the car down the street.

Alternatively, any significant damage or dents or something what would be unique?

I’m sorry this happened and I hope you get your car back, but you probably should be filing a police report and going to your insurance company, not trying to crowdsource the thing on Reddit. Not sure what the end goal is here — someone says yeah I saw that car driving down near Union Market and… what is step 2?

Sorry, this happens to you. Hope you get your vehicle back in good condition. And if you do, I recommend trading that vehicle if you can, because you have no idea what those Criminals used your vehicle for.

All you need for the Hyundai is an iPhone charger it’s wild. Most likely they changed the plates by now, good chance the vehicle is east of the river as that is where a lot of the stolen cars end up at

Unfortunately stolen cars are very hard to find for a few reasons.

  1. They change the tag so the readers won’t hit on them 2 they will run from the police and the police can not chase for stolen
  2. There are so many stolen cars in this area DC has the highest stolen car rate per capita
  3. Hope your car gets found it’s most likely east of the river being used in god knows what
