Yes, it's something offered in a lot of cities. Poor kids also need to not drown.
DC Parks and Rec has swim lessons for babies-- $40 for 6 or 8 weeks at pools throughout the city. That's as close to free as I've seen.
DC DPR offers free lessons, I think. At least, their website says it's free (when I click on the registration link it says $40-80)
I know the Edgewood Rec Center is free for membership. Iâm not sure if their classes are free too.
You can apply for parks and rec grants to cover the cost
DC Parks and Rec have low cost lessons. But they fill up super quickly so you basically need to sign on the minute they come available each season.
Edgewood Rec doesn't have a pool.
For babies the biggest thing is getting them used to being in the water and at the pool. You can do that for free at a public swim at a DC Parks and Rec pool. Of course, a class would be helpful for some folks, for a variety of reasons, but it's not really necessary until the kid gets to 3-ish years old.

My bad! I thought it did for some reason.
Just be aware that âswim lessonsâ at this age donât result in them being able to swim. Itâs about getting them comfortable in the water. It will be years of lessons before they can swim independently.
Does anyone know when the registration windows open? Last one was 11/1...
