Does anyone in the DC area think that legalized online gambling is a net positive?

It would be if DC let draft kings and fan duel in.
Look at how much money md and va are making.
I don’t
I’m not thinking only in terms of revenue
I don't see what it adds to our community other than more tax revenue. And that's a race to the bottom.
Then explain what are you’re considering a net positive.
People feel great when they hit a parlay!
It pairs perfectly with my cocaine addiction
I also abuse alcohol
It’s been positive for some members of the council and their family.
This. Gambet is the absolute worst. I love sports gambling but refuse to use that app.
Gamebet can eat a dick!!!! But can u use it anywhere? Or just the designated zones?
Anywhere in the city unlike the others which work only in their zones. So for those of us who want to gamble at home, it’s the only option.
So annoying. Gamebet sucks! It’s says it’s run by DClottery but u can only turn your winning stubs in to the places that have it, and their machines are always broke
If you’re talking about the “moral degradation” of society, we already allow vices that cause statistically worse outcomes for individuals and society, so why leave this one out?
No, not a positive. You can't both make tax revenue and be a net positive for the average player. In person at least has entertainment value, govt run (e.g scratch offs) is at least is mostly public revenue, but virtual and private is loose-loose.
You can withdraw through the app
I’m talking about the slips u get from the machine. I just downloaded the app.
Oh I see. I have a voucher though which never do. The voucher is like credit that u can only use on a machine
I don’t particularly care. People can do what they want with their money.
Glad Kevin Hart got a paying gig, his comedy sucks
Probably not. But it’s a free country and we allow things that are net negatives on society, like alcohol, because for better or worse individuals are empowered to make their own decisions.
I disagree, but that’s funny
It’s an additional tax on the poor and infirm with most of the revenue going to private hands. Merry Christmas.
Prohibition of vices doesn’t work.
I don't see anything wrong with it. As for me, gambling it's a personal choice. I get that some people suffer from gambling and get addicted to it, and I'm sorry for them.
Still, something tells me that before they legalized it, there were plenty of illegal ways of making bets. I know a few people who regularly visited all those gambling sites from Schweizer Online-Casino simply by using a VPN, had a bookie friend, or traveled to other states for sports betting.
So I'd say that making gambling legit helped. Firstly, gambling sites will be taxed, and secondly, the risk of getting an arm broken because you haven't paid your bookie in time is much lower now. At least this way, there'll be some control over gambling.
As for the moral part, everyone has their own concept of what is good and what isn't, and people are free to make their own decisions.

The annoying ads alone are a huge negative!
