Hello all,

I’m having a really hard time getting my Adderall IR filled in the city, I’ve been out of meds for a month and I’d really like to restock soon :(. I usually use the TEVA generic if that helps.

Has anyone had any luck lately?

TIA! :)

A lot of people don’t know this but the DEA limits the amount of ADHD medicine that can be distributed to pharmacies in a region. It’s even worse now because there is an overall shortage.

This may not help now but in the future can you get your Rx delivered by mail? This is what I do. I don’t have to play roulette with pharmacies.

I was always under the impression that pharmacies can't tell you whether or not they have it in stock - that is not true. Call around to CVSs/Walgreens and tell them your dose and they'll tell you if they have it. Not a quick process going through the "press 1 for blah blah, 2 for blah blah," but it's worth it if you can't get it filled.

I tried but my psych is only registered in the DMV and apparently Express Scripts isn’t HQ’d in the DMV - as relayed by my insurance this afternoon.

It’s so hard to navigate without the medication that helps me navigate this stuff :) haha

Yes it can. I take Vyvanse which is also a controlled substance and I get that in the mail but I can’t get automatic refills. I have to send in a script every time. But I can get a 3-month supply every time. Someone has to sign for it on delivery though.

My fiancee has to get refills every month and it's always a pain. Recently been having good luck at the CVS on 400 Mass, but that wasn't the case 6 months ago. Has consistently had trouble with Walgreens. Good luck!

My only problem is my stupid online pharmacy sends them out DHL, but USPS delivers them. There is always a delay between when DHL says they gave it to USPS and when USPS says they got it from DHL. From a few days to a few weeks.

This only happens with my Vyvanse, which is a controlled substance, so has to be signed for, and it not easy to get a refill of.

It's still better than the pharmacy which is always out.

Got my 5 mg Amphetamine Salts prescription filled at the CVS in Bethesda, on the corner of Wisconsin & Cheltenham.

I realize it's not DC, so I'm sorry if this isn't helpful.

I get mine from my pharmacy benefits manager (PBM). A PBM is insurance that just covers medications and they will also dispense medications by mail. ExpressScripts and Caremark are PBMs.

I don’t know what kind of health insurance you have. You might have a PBM or you might not. If you do, you can look up how to start ordering your medication by mail. If you don’t there might still be a way to do it but you would have to ask your insurance company how to do it.

That’s annoying but if you take Adderall it should be on their formulary (list of drugs they fully cover), so if it’s a service they cover at all it shouldn’t be too much of a pain in the ass.

I don't take Adderall. But I've done 90 days on other CDSs and it's fine. It has to go to a physical address, not a po box, and you have to sign for it. And it has to be a new prescription each time, no auto refills.

Edit: correction, 30 on controls. 90 on regular stuff. My bad

Sandoz (at least I'm assuming that's what the "MFR" stands for).

I got the chemical name wrong: they are 5 mg Dextroamphetamine tablets, brand name Adderall. I take 1 pill 3x/day, so I got a month's worth (90 pills) within the last week.

I hope that's still helpful!

I have gotten incredibly good at bludgeoning my way through the healthcare system and I consider it a duty to share my knowledge with fellow neurodivergent people. I really hope you can figure out getting your medicine mailed to you, it saves so much trouble.

Recommend Harris Teeter’s pharmacy. I was having this exact same issue the last few months, practically on the verge of giving up. Harris Teeter hasn’t let me down since.

The CVS closest to Franklin Square (14th and G, or H?) has been the only one that’s been consistent for me ever since moving here. Also could depend on your generic brand and dose, but mine are 10g if that’s of any help.

I haven't taken mine in years, but I always had luck at that pharmacy, too.

(It's amazing what happens when you get a job that allows you to jump from topic to topic all the time, though I am a woman who was diagnosed at 30, so my experience is not typical.)

I get mine filled at the Costco on S. Dakota. If they don't have it in stock, they get it within a day. I don't think you have to be a member to use the pharmacy.

Brookville in Friendship Heights is a small, independent pharmacy. It serves mostly elderly residents in its zip code, so it’s a place that’s less likely to have a run on its limited supply.

Congress used it all to get the budget passed. Wegmans generally has a good supply throughout the area

My wife was able to fill her Adderall Rx this week at the CVS on Georgia (next to the Petworth metro stop). It was delayed by a few days due to the shortage but not too terrible of a wait. I don't remember which generic she typically gets, I think it varies based on what's in stock at the pharmacy.

If you haven’t already done so, stick to one pharmacy location and have your prescriber send it electronically a week before you need it filled. Doing so, will help ensure you get yours filled and you develop a unofficial relationship with the pharmacy in that they know you and I like to think they prioritize their regular customers over one timers-and it helps with them ordering sufficient medication to meet their requirements.
