You’ll want to do something that allows you opportunities to get to know the person. You should also make sure, you have ample opportunity to “start” a conversation/keep a conversation. With all that said, try the following options:

  • Visit a (free) museum and have dinner afterwards.

  • Walk through Eastern Market and have a dinner afterwards.

  • Visit the Botanical Garden and have dinner at Eastern Market.

Upshot: You don’t want to invest too much time/energy on your first-date. Doing something cheap/free, allows you to focus on getting to know the person. If you’re into them, then move from a public event to something more intimate (dinner). Everything goes well over dinner? Great. Now it’s time to spend a little more, have a bit more adventure, and get to know the person even more on a second date - ice skating, movies, or even bowling.
