Hi all! I saw that Medium Rare in Cleveland Park is offering to deep fry small turkeys for free tomorrow from 10-4. Has anyone gone to this in the past? Is it a line around the block kind of thing, or pretty do-able? I'd like to bring my turkey, but trying to judge when I would need to show up, etc. Any insight appreciated!

Did it at Nats park one year, was a cluster but came out really good. Go on the early side, they should give you a time to come back. Enjoy!

I did this twice and both times the turkey was pink and uncooked in the middle. The first time I thought it was an anomaly so I tried again and it was the same.

My neighbor just went by, he said the line went around the corner to Mexican Restaurant, so maybe 20 people I line at 10/1015.

How absolutely odd. Do you bring your own turkey? And they just fry it? I've never heard of such a thing!

If you take your turkey, make sure it's 100% thawed and patted dry! Good luck!

It's not that unusual. Lots of people get them donated but then don't have a good way to cook them, or they're in apartments so deep frying isn't a viable option. It's also quite dangerous for your average person to try deep frying for the first time with something as big as a turkey, so it's a multifaceted public service.
