I saw a squirrel drag a sandwich out of a trash can at the lincoln memorial. Didn't get it on film unfortunately.

Agree! I have pet rats and they try so hard to take as much food as they can to their little eating areas. Evolution did them dirty by not giving them cheek pouches like hamsters.

They want to be hamsters... but have no cheek pouches. They want to be squirrels, but have no sense of balance. They want to be moles, but they're not very good at building tunnels that don't collapse.

It's the price of bring a generalist, I guess.
