Last night around 11 pm my car was broken into on Florida Ave and 12th Pl NW near Cardozo school. My blue/black Trooper disc golf back pack was taken along with a portable speaker. The thieves probably didn’t realize the backpack was full of frisbees, and I think it may end up dumped somewhere, or possibly to sell on eBay or FB marketplace. The frisbees are labeled with my name and phone number. If anyone comes across the backpack or frisbees please message me here or message the number on the frisbees. Thanks, Eric.

Update, the backpack was found 3 blocks away in an alley. Which is good they don’t know the value of $350 worth of frisbees

Awesome news. I once had a rental car broken into only to have them steal a bag of dirty clothes, which I spent a while searching the alleys for. I had stopped at a friend’s Christmas party on my way back from being out of town. Luckily, I had brought my bag with my laptop and other good stuff in with me.

This was 15 years ago or so, but it was literally about a block from where your car got broken into.

Wow. I don’t know why, but hearing you found your frisbees made my day. Is my life boring or what. Happy for you dude

Interestingly enough, the person that found my bag in an alley behind his house is someone I play ultimate frisbee with. So that was an odd coincidence

The thieves must be disappointed, yes.

I try to leave stuff in my trunk . Don't put it in trunk where I park of course but before I get to where I'm leaving car hours or overnight.

I always leave it in my trunk, but last night I was transporting some plexiglass so I ended up leaving the bag in the back seat. Another car also had their window broken in and a bag/cleats taken

Wow! Another option is on floor if inside car . I'm sure you know .

I have a short cable always showing but nothing attached

Where do you play? No courses in DC, right?

Windsor-Bricks OP t1_iwvjh6j wrote

I play all over, but most of them are 20-30 min outside the beltway. Calvert is up by Univ Maryland and not a real course. Blumont is over in Arlington but only 9 holes

Windsor-Bricks OP t1_iwvjr7r wrote

Calvert a good practice course and good in a time pinch because it is close, but isn’t as challenging and diverse as most courses.

How would the thieves have known the backpack was full of frisbees? They saw a bag full of something within easy reach and has no consequences to them for stealing it to see what is in there.... it's like a present or lottery ticket.

Careful. Someone may accuse you of victim blaming

1

drr71-2 t1_iwux2jg wrote

My comment is directed at OP's statement about the how "The thieves probably didn’t realize the backpack was full of frisbees....".....why the "probably"? Unless the bag is see-through, how would they know what was in there? If folks want to view my statement as blaming the victim....I can't do anything to help their poor interpretation of what I wrote.

“Probably” didn’t know it was full of frisbees as in, not as valuable as electronics or something. I think OP means, they thought it would be something valuable, it wasn’t, so maybe it was dumped somewhere and can be retrieved.

Yeah....that's what I said...."They saw a bag full of something within easy reach and has no consequences to them for stealing it to see what is in there.... it's like a present or lottery ticket."

I was joking. I commented in another thread when they asked how to prevent car break-ins in DC because it's very common. I said "leave nothing in your car. Not even an empty bag" because it makes a thief curious. I was then accused of victim shaming 🤣😂

I walked by a Blue/black backpack that was open and tossed by some dumpsters in the alley beside the Ellington this morning around 8. I didn't get a close look at it but it was definitely blue/black.

Edit* I'm over by Howard theater right now I can walk over in a few minutes and see if it's still there.

Just a heads up.. don't leave your discs in the car. The hot/cold cycles warped over half my shit sitting in the bag in the back. They look fine but when you throw they wobble like hell and are useless now :(

Windsor-Bricks OP t1_iwvbgb6 wrote

Yes, I played a round earlier in the afternoon and had them in my car because I was still out. Good advise bc temperature can effect those specialty plastics!

Probably didn't help I was living in Florida with a black car. Expensive mistake tho, bc you can't just buy a new version of the same. The wand picks the wizard and all that...
