Used to have FIOS at 16th/U St NW. Moved 0.5 miles to Columbia Rd near Hilton and no FIOS available. But at 18th/Columbia it's available. Don't get it . Xfinity sucks

Eh, I've actually had good luck with Xfinity in the area, my speeds with fios have been spotty. They both kinda suck though.
Xfinity (aka Comcast, using existing coaxial cable lines originally strung up for analog cable tv signals) is an inferior technology to FIOS (fiber optic lines specifically intended for digital signals). It's not a matter of opinion. Xfinity's technology shares bandwidth with your neighbors, so the suckage can increase during times of heavy use. I'm guessing many people took a hit during the pandemic when everyone was suddenly doing two way video conferencing all day.
Inferior tech, but if Verizon hobbles your speeds the underlying tech doesn’t matter much.
Once lived on a corner where the other 3 houses on that corner had Fios, but mine was not available.
Same. You got to pray to the FiOS gods to get Verizon to consider hooking you up.
Wtf?

See if you can get Starry. It’s not as good as Fios, but much better than Comcast.
I asked building management cuz Starry has to approve your building. Apparently, we are too small with only 25 units.
Ugh, I’m sorry. Our building got it because they hooked us up to the much bigger building next door.
That's what my neighbor said. If either building next to us gets it we could benefit.
Might be worth emailing Starry and encouraging them to solicit big buildings near you.
Good idea. It's also much cheaper than the major companies
I've been on comcast and can't get fios in my building...Im def paying way too much but i don't get why people are always unhappy with it - is fios faster? Cheaper? I think I've had two outages in the 7 years i've lived here; so I don't get why everyone wants to switch
Not sure about price . But I constantly have to stop WiFi on my phone, not just middle of the night but also daytime. I'm streaming and it stops or some link isn't working. We moved 3 years ago and one outage. Technical assistance is good cuz both companies have invested in fixing things remotely.
With FIOS never had these issues.

I moved recently and Verizon is so much better. Xfinity BLOWS! I'm sorry for your loss.
