It really frustrates me that key bus lines just grind to a halt on M street during the evening rush. A bus lane there is my pipe dream.

Would honestly be better to have some of them (a few runs of the 38B for example) use Whitehurst rather get stuck in Gtown.

Reminds me of back when Uberpool was a thing and entitled cheapskate assholes would request a pool then try to bully the driver into letting their 2 friends ride with them.

That never happened to me, but UberPool was interesting. Every once in a while there’d be a great chat between the co-riders and/or the driver, but mostly it was an insight into how antisocial we’ve become.

They need to do this 24/7 on 14th Street. It's six lanes, 3 on each side, but:

  • Right lane: all parking, so useless for driving.
  • Middle lane: frequently blocked by Ubers/Lyfts/UberEats/GrubHub/UPS/FedEx/etc. drivers waiting to pick up people/food or drop people/packages off OR cars trying to turn right but can't because of pedestrians crossing the street
  • Left lane: frequently blocked by drivers trying to turn left

There's no lane that you don't get stuck in or have to weave out of.

Take New York, for example. 85% of the stopped traffic and bottleneck going west from NoMa into Mt Vernon Square is caused by the parking on the side of the road forcing drivers to squeeze from three lanes into two for a few blocks before opening up to four for the on-ramp to 395. So long as we’re dependent on cars, NY will continue to be a major thoroughfare, and parking on the side for those few blocks between N Capitol and New Jersey makes it hell and shuttles frustrated drivers off onto side streets.

Honestly, this is a very good thing, and we don’t see good traffic/car decisions often! This will MASSIVELY reduce congestion on M and hopefully let cars flow through there easier.

Now to the question of enforcement…

It's pretty rare I see these signs enforced. People will park there, and either not get ticketed, or will get a ticket but won't pay it.

God, I don't know why you'd even bother to try and find parking on M street anyway.
