Can we stop pathologizing everything, including crime? People in DC mostly aren't shooting each other because of mental illness, but because of material interests (drugs, turf) and cultural attitudes (machismo, honor, "beef").

Pathologizing at the earliest stages is the best approach to root the problem before it exponentially exacerbates. The gun violence stage is waaaay too late.

Exactly. Emotional intelligence is important. Cultural attitudes of toxic masculinity are emotionally unintelligent. We need to help others learn about their emotions, if you are mad then process that feeling. Do not act it out, speak it out. These are elementary/foundational principles that require pathologizing people's thoughts, feelings, or behaviors.
