We need a Texas style bounty policy here. Maybe even authorize DC gov to impound vehicles with outstanding tickets that total more than the KBB value of the vehicle being ticketed.

Let's crowdsource a bounty program.

I mean...I'm pretty goddamned liberal, but I kinda agree with the conservatives on the slippery slope this kind of policy would create...

Not that I necessarily think there are conservatives who are against such a plan, especially if it would primarily impact poor people. But they tend to be such avid skiers that I normally associate any kind of governmental slippery slope with them.

NYC has implemented this kind of system. I haven't read anything about it lately but as far as I'm aware it hasn't made the John Wick universe into real life.

Starting a bounty police for cars with fucked up bumpers would probably be easier. The amount of property damage these drivers has caused must be in the millions.

gnocchicotti t1_jecy0ne wrote

That's gonna be tricky cuz I'm pretty sure Altimas come from the factory with no rear bumper.

Poorly. The 2 in "23" is lower than the other numbers.

If you see the car parked, just rip it off. Good chance a cop notices before the owner does.

This dude is so careless with the tape... Reminds me of the wild drivers in PG County, the registrations stickers on their license plate are placed anywhere on the plate but where they belong. If you see a collage of annual stickers on a MD plate, keep your distance.

MD drivers always require a lot distance because that kind of crazy and unpredictable is how you end up dead.

Some of y’all need to work for parking enforcement. Honestly.

I used to think the SAME thing. Until yesterday. I was waiting at a red light when a car came screeching to a halt. The young driver had not been paying attention, drove past the red light, and screeched to a stop in the middle of a busy intersection. As I looked over, I noticed a temporary tag.

I gave the driver the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps he was distracted. Maybe he had a long day. The light turned green, I glanced over at the car, and saw four teens in the car. The passenger driver started waving his arm my way and looked over at my car (I thought he might be dancing?).

I did not want to stare, so I looked forward again. Next thing I know, the car had moved all the way from the left lane to my lane. For your consideration, this was a three-lane road, and I was in the far-right lane. The temporary tag car had moved all the way from the left lane to my far-right lane. I tapped my brakes to ensure that I did not run into their car, and they speed off.

Say they hit me, with those fake temporary tags, I would have no insurance claim as they would have speed off.

This proves my point. Some active members of the sub could be great at spotting these fake temp tags and shit. The city needs y’all.

If you damaged your car because an unlicensed, uninsured driver in a car that's either a junker worth nothing, stolen or both intentionally caused an accident for whatever reason, I think it's probably safe to say you wouldn't be so stoic about letting bygones be bygones.

And yeah, I'm making assumptions about the unlicensed and uninsured parts. But if somebody did that to you would you really think, "Yeah, that temp tag is probably legit and that's a totally legal vehicle and the driver is otherwise an upstanding citizen suffering a fit of temporary road rage?" At best they're a fuckin' douchebag, still.

DC is a no fault jurisdiction for car accidents so you would be fucked either way

Your insurance covers hit-and-run and/or uninsured drivers.

Dcdonewell OP t1_jecs9c8 wrote

It’s still a claim on your insurance which leads to your rates rising and paying a deductible.

curioalpaca t1_jed5pvg wrote

It’s also just a fucking nightmare. My car was totaled by an elderly driver and even though everything was ultimately covered, it took WEEKS

Mateorabi t1_jecw6cs wrote

What shite insurance do you have. I had someone cream my fender at BWI and not leave a note. I checked with my ins rep to make sure that wasn't true before filing the claim. It doesn't go up, same as if the person who hit you stayed around. (And that makes sense. It's not like it shows you're a bigger risk than they originally thought if it was the other person's fault.)

MarkinDC24 t1_jeeecrd wrote

Have you considered my feelings? What if I don’t want the post traumatic stress that could occur from being randomly hit by another car and it speeding away. You could also empathize with the fact that my car could be totaled — and insurance often gives below fair market value of cars that are totaled. I mean, I could keep going but I hope you get my point.

I’m convinced the owner is in here and following posts about their car. Explains why the old temp tag came off the same day I posted about it.

$13,720 in unpaid tickets the most recent being 1/27/23. Who knows how many other vehicles have this same plate though.

Several tickets for "Failing to Display Current Tags" ....hmmm
