S'floglina is pretty good. I am not sure if pasta aficionados love it, but it is in our rotation of resturants

It was pretty good for me too and I come from an Italian family. Carbonara was chefs kiss

100%. I, too, make my own pastas and pizzas from scratch (and used to professionally) and can endorse L'ardente as the real deal.

Make sure to try the lasagna and they do a mean carbonara.

For me it’s a toss up between The Red Hen in NW DC and Filomena in Georgetown. Filomena is more traditional and expensive. But the portions are huge/family style. The Red Hen is a little more modern.

Honorable mentions to Rose’s Luxury near Eastern Market. It’s not technically Italian but they always have modern pasta dishes on the menu (plus they give you free little make your own cacio e pepe kits when you leave).

Lupo Marino, it’s kind of pricy for what you get but IMO is best Italian option at the wharf/beats Officina.

Osteria Morini in the navy yard is pretty good, their cheese board is the best thing there imo though.

Stellina Pizzeria, is mostly known for their pizza but the pasta there is actually pretty good too - specifically their cacio e pepe

Love The Red Hen. On our first visit, my friends and I ordered every pasta dish on the menu, and we could not believe how good the simple spaghetti al pomodoro; I'm a big proponent of places that do even the basics really well.

If Rose's ever brings back the Cacio e pepe souffle, it fucking rocks.

What is the consensus on Al Volo Osteria in AdMo? I haven’t been to the other places mentioned here but that’s been my favorite spot so far

Probably the most reliably great traditional pasta place in the city.

I haven't been in ages, but Giovanni's Trattu just south of Dupont has had great pasta whenever I've been in the past: https://www.giovannistrattudc.com/

Lol. Now I’m also mad cause I want some of their pasta now and I’m 200 miles away till next week. 🤤 it’s such a weird place but the food is tasty and the staff is fascinating

I like Trattoria da Lina in Takoma Park. Nice, family-run place with good pasta. Sfoglina, which has multiple locations in the area, is a bit fancier but excellent pasta. I’m not going to pretend to be a pasta expert though lol.

There’s Sfoglina in Van Ness. The pasta is good but not cheap.

I admittedly haven’t tried some of the main recommendations yet, but two that I personally love are Al Volo and Capa Tosta.

My boss goes to Ristorante Tosca quite a bit and spends a fortune. I think it's supposed to be pretty good but never been myself.
