Do NOT pay for anything or send any money unless you've seen a place in person and have a signed lease in hand. There are many scams out there.
Ok maybe I found the main problem: is located on 18th street near bars š bad sign I guess
Yes, we try our best to avoid scams š© but at the same time, we need to find something ideally before arriving, because temporal options like airbnbs are really expensive ā¦.
It is worth the money to come a week early and find something in person.
The price is 2650 + some utilities š¤
Management company ! By virtual tour it looked really nice. We checked the management company online and apparently they exist š Iām thinking that maybe is ācheapā because the street is noisy or problematic on the weekends..
18th street is not unsafe, but is a āparty streetā that gets full of drunk people on weekend nights. Itās loud, and there can be unsafe behaviors exhibited. There was a recent slew of businesses and residences having their windows smashed on 18th street and surrounding areas so Iād be wary of ground floor apartment units.
The area is very walkable, though. Very close to lots of restaurants and parks. Not very close to metro but lots of busses go through the neighborhood.
I currently live in Adams Morgan! I've really liked living here so far. I feel safe to walk at night (am a woman). Another neighborhood I really liked and felt even safer in was Van Ness. It's a bit further out but still very accessible by metro. It was also cheaper to live there than AdMo.
If you pay money without signing a contract in person and physically seeing the unit, you are 100% going to be scammed.
If you canāt afford airbnbs for a couple of weeks then you likely canāt afford Adams Morgan. If you need to sign a lease before arrival I would suggest simply going to the websites of larger apartment buildings that you find on google maps, Zillow, or Redfin. You can find lower priced apartments along Connecticut avenue from Woodley Park to Van Ness. These will be walkable, safe, and metro accessible. Best of luck.

Of course we could, the point is that paying an airbnb (until we find something + until we furnish the ap) + 1 month deposit and 1st month rent + all the furniture is not ideal. In any case, as of course Itās problematic not visiting in person, we will probably wait. Thank you!!
If you checked out the management company and itās legit you made a great choice (assuming youāre the sort of 20 something that likes to go out to bars).
I live in Adams Morgan. It is a safe neighborhood and walkable to Woodley Park and Dupont metro stations. There are a lot of bars on 18th but there are a lot of bars on U street, in Shaw, H street, the SW Wharf and several other neighborhoods. It isn't as crazy as it used to be. All that being said, you should go check it out in person before you sign anything or send money. Be safe.
I live in AdMo (Columbia and 19th), so very close. I good a hot deal on my apartment but itās tiny, found it on Zillow when I was moving to DC. Iād say.. I love the area. I donāt actually go to AdMo per se, but there are lots of ethnic spots and bars, I tend to go towards DuPont more, I was to school, have a few bus stops around which take me to 3 metro stations, I canāt think of the better location at least for my needs (being close ti places I need to be close to, living in a lively area). The only sort of complaint is that the bigger grocery stores are about 23-25 mins away, so I tend to order online most of the time.
Edit: there are grocery stores closer as well
Unless they're renting from a big commercial management company, but it sounds like they can't afford that.
2650 for a two bedroom is pretty low for that neighborhood, actually for most desirable neighborhoods in DC. My first apartment here was not too far away in the U st corridor. It cost 2450ā¦for a basement unit 1 bedroomā¦.8 years ago. The bedroom didnāt have a window and the building didnāt have amenities. So be careful! But the neighborhood is comfortably walkable. There is no completely āsafeā neighborhood in DC but adams morgan is on the lower risk side. There are still shootings, carjackings etc but not nearly as many as other parts of town.

Isnāt there a Safeway on columbia road a little past 18th?
And a Harris Teeter a little further. Adams Morgan is actually packed with grocery stores. Thereās 4 total plus a couple liquor and convenience stores.
So you live 8 minutes from Harris Teeter and 9 minutes from Safeway.
Both Harris teeter and Safeway are a 10 minute walk from you.
[deleted]
That's the price for a 1 bedroom
Rents are pretty much the same in any central neighborhood. The only maybe lower up Connecticut or Wisconsin Ave
[deleted]
That's not DC
Pro tip: Wegmans in Cathedral Heights
Thats right! The Harris Teeter on Kalorama is pretty big and great
And a Trader Joes about a 15 min walk from there on 14th and U
From my place Whole Foods and Trader Joeās are about 20-25 mins. Doable but not ideal walk with bags. I call it a weighted lunge wall uphill. I typically go to Streets Market and Yes! for something quick, but prefer to do weekly grocery shopping elsewhere (online at Giant which isnāt great, or make a trip to WF/TJ)
Need to check out HT, havenāt been. I donāt like Safeway
nah you go to the burbs and metro in. Listen to what the people are saying. We know our city.
Since you arenāt listening to anyone about getting an Airbnb/hotel for the first week or two, please update the post after you get scammed.
Seems that you didnāt read all my comments š

Adams Morgan tends to be among the priciest neighborhoods in DC. You might be getting a good deal or a scam if that's where the apartment is listed on a low price.
